Accredited Pension Representative

Through NIPA's Accredited Pension Representative (APR) designation program, you'll earn a prestigious designation that carries with it a sense of personal accomplishment and demonstrates your professional competency.


Potential APRs include retirement plan personnel, financial consultants/planners, and Registered Investment Advisors.



APR Designation Benefits

As an APR student, you'll experience a general survey of all types of retirement plans and engage in the advanced study of retirement plan topics, ranging from fiduciary responsibility and prohibited transactions to minimum coverage testing and distributions.


Earning the APR Designation

To earn the APR designation, students must complete steps 1 OR 2 below.

  1. Successfully complete/pass the two APR exams and must also have one of the following: a FINRA Series 6, 7, 65, 66 or 24 license - or - an insurance license.
  2. Have an ERPA designation.

The APR 1 exam is unproctored and can be taken from your home or work computer during any of NIPA's testing windows. The APR 2 exam is proctored and must be taken at a Webassessor testing center during any of NIPA's testing windows.

Maintaining the APR Designation

In order to maintain the APR designation, you must complete 10 hours of continuing professional education credit and hold a current NIPA membership at the Business Owner or Executive level (annually).
