My Box of Chocolates

Forrest Gump once said, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.” As I reflect back over the past 12 months of my life, these words immediately come to mind and help frame the tremendous privilege I have had serving in my capacity as President. I had no idea the impact this experience would have on me and will long after I hand over the gavel. I’ve been fortunate this past year to witness the passion our volunteers have in advancing our industry by supporting TPA practices. I have watched these amazing people work diligently behind the scenes in an effort to develop new ideas, tools and concepts that really have made a difference to our members. I was fortunate to receive weekly updates on the progress of their efforts in my weekly call with our Executive Director Laura Rudzinski, where I found new motivation and encouragement to do more to help in the effort.

As President, you act as a figurehead surrounded by amazing people. Opportunities come to you not because you are more important than anyone else, but because your role is to listen to the membership, the Board, the NIPA team and others within our industry. When I opened my box of chocolates last July, I never expected we would have the good fortune of partnering with Western Pension & Benefits Council (WP&BC). I could never have considered we would develop a relationship with 401(k) TV that will provide us with the ability to shift the paradigm within our industry by educating those outside our industry and demonstrating the value of a TPA. The overhaul of our educational materials, new committees that have created more opportunities to volunteer, and countless other initiatives I never knew I’d be fortunate enough to witness during my time in this role. None of this could have ever been accomplished without the amazing team at NIPA, the vision and commitment of the Board of Directors, and most importantly our brilliant and dedicated volunteers. I will always be grateful for this experience!

“Life is full of surprises; you never know what will happen next.”
