Membership Types

There are Five classifications of NIPA membership:

  1. Regular Membership ($350.00) is available to to anyone who has a minimum of two years experience in pension administration and is currently employed as a full time pension administrator or pension consultant. The following benefits and restrictions apply to Regular Members of NIPA:
    • All Regular Members are entitled to specific member benefits and voting privledges.
    • All Regular Members are required to fulfill 10 hours of Continuing Education Credit per year (APAs must fulfill 15 hours a year to maintain designation).

    All APAs and APRs must join NIPA as Regular Members to use designation.

  2. Associate Membership ($350.00) is available to anyone who does not qualify for Regular Membership and wishes to be a part of NIPA. The following benefits and restrictions apply to Associate Members of NIPA:
    • Associate Members are entitled to the same member benefits as Regular Members, but do not have voting privileges.
    • Associate Members are not required to fulfill the continuing education requirements and therefore cannot hold an APA or APR designation.
    • Associate Members have permission to use inscription Associated Member, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PENSION ADMINISTRATORS on printed material.
  3. Firm A ($750.00) membership is available to any corporation, partnership, or sole proprietorship with 25 or fewer employees. The following benefits and restrictions apply to Firm A Member Firms:
    • Each Firm A Membership includes a Regular Membership for a named employee of that Firm whose main endeavor is pension or employee benefits administration. That person selected is entiled to all Regular Member benefits, will be listed as the main contact for the Firm, and can hold an APA or APR designation.
    • Each employee of a Firm A Member Firm is entitled to discounts of 20% or more on registration fees for all NIPA sponsored events.
    • Additional employees of Firm A Member Firms are not are consider Regular Members and therefore cannot hold a APA or APR designation or take advantage of any other Regular Member benefit.
    • Firm A Member Firms have permission to use inscription Member Firm, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PENSION ADMINISTRATORS on firm printed material.
    • Firm A Member Firms receive discounts on advertising in Plan Horizons.
  4. Firm B ($1,500) membership is available to any corporation, partnership, or sole proprietorship with 26 or more employees. The following benefits and restrictions apply to Firm B Member Firms:
    • Each Firm B Membership includes a Regular Membership for a named employee of that Firm whose main endeavor is pension or employee benefits administration. That person selected is entiled to all Regular Member benefits, will be listed as the main contact for the Firm, and can hold an APA or APR designation.
    • Each employee of a Firm B Member Firm is entitled to discounts of 20% or more on registration fees for all NIPA sponsored events.
    • Additional employees of Firm B Member Firms are not are consider Regular Members and therefore cannot hold a APA or APR designation or take advantage of any other Regular Member benefit.
    • Firm B Member Firms have permission to use inscription Member Firm, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PENSION ADMINISTRATORS on firm printed material.
    • Firm B Member Firms receive d iscounts on advertising in Plan Horizons.

  5. Student Membership ($175.00) is available to anyone currently working towards their APA or APR designation that has not joined NIPA as a Regular Member. The following benefits and restrictions apply to Student Members:
    • Student Members are entitled to the same member benefits as Regular Members, but do not have voting privledges and are not required to fulfill the Continuing Education requirements.
    • The Annual Dues for Student Memberships is exactly one-half of the Regular Membership Dues.
    • Applicants for Student Memberships must be enroll in either a June or December APA or APR course within the same year they apply for membership for their application to be accepted and must continuously enroll in at least one exam per year to maintain their Student Membership.
    • Student Memberships expire 5 years from the date the application is received or until the Student has fulfilled the APA or APR designation requirements - whichever situation occurs first. At this time, they must join NIPA as a Regular Member to maintain their membership or use their APA or APR designation.
