Earning the APR Designation

Calling all ERPAs!

For retirement plan professionals who obtain the Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent (ERPA) designation, NIPA will automatically grant the APR designation upon joining NIPA – no insurance license or FINRA series 6, 7,65, 66, 24 necessary! ERPA designees are also eligible to obtain the APA designation by taking a single open-book, comprehensive, online exam from their home or office.

To earn the APR designation, students must follow steps 1 or 2 below:

  1. Successfully complete/pass the two APR self-study courses and examinations and must also have one of the following: a FINRA Series 6, 7, 65, 66 or 24 license or an insurance license.
  2. Have an ERPA designation

In order to maintain the designation, you must complete 10 hours of continuing professional education credit and hold a current NIPA membership (annually).

Course 1:  The Fundamentals of Qualified Plan Administration
(pdf)
Course 2: Advanced Topics in Retirement Plans
(hard copy textbook and supplement textbook in PDF format)
